When one’s tummy is rumbling, a person rarely gives thought to what other people are eating. They are often set on getting food to appease their stomachs as soon as possible. But, the Yum! Brands found a way to remind us that there are other people in the world who experience hunger and need our help. This is through their World Hunger Relief Campaign.
Three international fast food chains with franchises in the Philippines have given their commitment to this program which aims to promote awareness and volunteerism for the UN’s World Feeding Program. These chains are Taco Bell, KFC, and Pizza Hut. Taco Bell Philippines started with their World Hunger Relief campaign last 2007. Since then they have already raised 63 million pesos for the UN-WFP school feeding program for the children in Mindanao.
There are three ways to help or donate in this campaign. One is by availing of a Christmas Postcard that features one of their volunteers, Ms. Shamcey Supsup which was hailed as Ms. Universe 3rd runner up in last year’s pageant. The postcard only costs 40 pesos. Another option is a coin bank donation wherein one can donate any amount by dropping it on the World Hunger Relief coin banks found in the counter. Lastly, one can help by simply ordering a Taco Bell WFP combo meal. Every time a customer purchases a WFP combo meal a 10 peso donation is given to the campaign. Customers may increase their donations by adding 5, 10 or 20 pesos to their bill and it goes directly to the WFP fund.
The Campaign is done for the whole month of December every year, and though the Christmas Season is the best time to share one’s blessings, helping others shouldn’t stop when Christmas is over.
