Cooking is always a fun family affair for us. And so, when we got our invite for the Moulinex You Cook Video Recipe Challenge 3, it just had to be an event for the family too. With my mom, my niece, my eldest sister and her daughter, we met up at the SM Prestige Lounge to witness the launch of this year’s Moulinex video cooking challenge.
Here’s a quick recap on last year’s challenge:
The theme of Moulinex You Cook 2 was Filipino International Fusion cuisine. Students from culinary schools participated in the video demo and cook-off competition that was held in three divisions. Liah De Castro emerged as the winner when she wowed the judges with her crab dish which she prepared on a one thousand peso-budget for the secret ingredient round of the cook-off’s final division. She bagged the Grand Prize of P50,000 cash, Moulinex appliances, and a 15-day Stay and Learn Program at the Hotel Intercon.
This year, Moulinex launches You Cook 3 and opens the competition to ladies without formal cooking education or training – yup, that’s most of us moms, homemakers, and kitchen amateurs. We slid glances at one another and we instantly knew that our minds are already reeling with all the possibilities for this year’s cook-off. This year’s theme is “My Signature Dish.” This basically opens up an assortment of dishes in just about any combination and prepared in all sorts of creative ways. Of course, the dishes should be prepared using at least 1 Moulinex product.
Moulinex and Krups Brand Marketing Manager Yovy Valenzuela shared the mechanics of You Cook 3. Amateur cooks are invited to submit their 10-minute cooking videos in CD format on or before January 30, 2013. Medium shot and close-up shot photographs are also required to be submitted along with the entry form. All entries will be judged in the qualifying round, after which 16 entries will be chosen to go on to the semi-final round. After an actual cooking demonstration, the best 8 amateur cooks will be picked to move on to the final round where a live cook-off challenge will be held. In the tradition of the You Cook video cooking challenge, contestants will have to be ready for a mystery ingredient challenge.
Aside from cooking skills, creativity, and use of Moulinex appliances, amateur cooks will be judged based on their personality as captured in their video entries as well as on the taste and visual appeal of their signature dishes. As a word of advice to those who wish to join the contest, You Cook Champ Liah De Castro said “never stop dreaming no matter what age you are.”

I must admit that I was excited about the launch. Although it was not the cooking demo that we initially expected, it was still an event that was worth travelling across the city for. Aside from the contest launch, the highlight for us would be the cooking demo by Chef Carlene Cookie Lorenzo of First Gourmet Academy. The Chicken Mousse prepared using a Moulinex food processor was smooth and tender. It was definitely a different way of serving chicken. The bite-sized pieces that we got were like mini chicken patties on a mini bun. But unlike traditional chicken patties, this one had a different texture that was less intrusive to the palate. We would have wanted to have a swig of the Mango smoothie which was a combination of mangoes, yogurt, and milk swished together in a Moulinex blender. But, I guess they only made a small batch. I’m sure it was also a refreshing fruity drink.
Another highlight was meeting one of our fave TV chefs, Chef Rosebud Benitez. My sister was one of the mommy guests featured in her cooking show, Quickfire, about a year ago and we could not help but have our pictures taken with her. Chef Rosebud is going to be one of the judges for the competition along with food and culinary icons Chef Rory Subida of Maya Culinary Arts Center Manila, Chef Mats Loo of First Gourmet Academy, Ms. Amy Ferrer of Intercontinental Hotel Manila, and Ms. Nina Daza-Puyat of Appetite Magazine. Here are some of our captured moments during the event.
